Medford Cruise

Last Saturday we hopped in the car and headed down to Medford!
My work is very involved in the Medford Cruise, so I had my introduction
into the 'Special Events' portion of the Boys & Girls Clubs!

Here's a picture of me sporting my official Boys & Girls Clubs shirt -
I'm wearing it SO proudly!! :)

We saw some A W E S O M E & G E O R G E O US cars
and we even got to play judge and give some happy owners some trophy cards!

This car was my very favorite from the day and the first trophy card that we handed out!
It was so fun to give the card for this car! The owner was there with his young son,
and they were were so excited! They told us that it has been passed down for three
generations and as we walked away, I saw them both pull out their phones and
walk around to take a picture of the trophy card that was sitting in the windshield!

And this was Nate's favorite car!!

And we'd both be happy to have any of these:

After my official duties were finished,  we took advantage of the fact
that we were in a 'big' city and went to Olive Garden for lunch!
It was absolutely D E L I C I O U S and we enjoyed every single bite
of one of our favorite restaurants that we don't have in Grants Pass!

We had a wonderful day together and it was nice to get a little glimpse
into what my life will be like around the special events at the club!!

Work Space

I thought that I'd give you a glimpse into my new working space ...

It's so weird for me to have an office -
I was emailing back and forth with a friend and co-worker at the law office today
and I told her that having my own office makes me feel like I have a grown up job!

I really enjoy having the freedom to decorate the space how I want,
and I'm still in process of doing just that and getting it organized,
but here are my new digs!! :)

2013-05-28 12.23.52

The windows overlook the huge gym at the back half of the club!

2013-05-28 12.24.11

On my first day 'on my own,' I got these beautiful flowers from my friend who trained me
and who I am replacing at the club! I was so surprised by her thoughtfulness!

2013-05-28 10.14.47

So here's my desk! And of course my picture of my hot husband!!
Work is so much better when I get to stare at his face all day long!!

2013-06-07 16.54.51

And a picture of yours truly! I 'dressed down' this day so that I could help
clean out and organize the conference room! It was pretty nasty, so the casual dress
was much appreciated!! (Although it's not super fancy anyway ...)

2013-06-07 16.53.47

And I can't have an office without a little bit of home in it!
The picture in the middle was taken from Old Main - my favorite place in the world!
The flower on the left was taken here in Oregon, and the one on the right was at Zions National Park!

2013-05-30 11.26.52

So there you have it!! That's where I spend my days!!

... Great Futures Start Here ...

Great Futures Start Here - Boys & Girls Clubs of America PSA

This is one of the MANY, MANY reasons why I love my job!!

It's amazing how much passion a person can develop
for something that they've only been involved in a short amount of time.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I was led to my job
and I am so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful cause!

If you live in an area that has a Boys & Girls Clubs branch,
I would encourage you to get involved in any way you can!!

Raspberries

Last Saturday morning I was talking to my dad on the phone!
As I was talking to him, I opened up the blinds that lead to our back patio
and whatever he was saying was interrupted with a squeal of delight (sorry, dad)!!

My raspberries turned and I was so excited!!

Later that day I went out and harvested my very first raspberries!
(I'm calling them MINE because Nate isn't a huge fan
of berries with seeds, so even though he is wonderful and waters them for me,
he doesn't intend on eating many of them - which suits me just fine!!)

I got a whole TWO out of the batch, and even though they weren't super sweet yet,
they were DELICIOUS!

One of the things that I miss MOST about Logan (aside from our family and friends)
is the giant raspberry patch in my mom's garden! The last few summers before we
moved away, I really enjoyed spending time out there picking and eating the tasty
berries! I was so excited when we found a raspberry bush at our farmer's market
last month! Hopefully having some berries of my own will keep me from being
super homesick this summer!! :)

Random May Fun ... 2013

May was a great month at our house! It rained a lot,
I got a new job, we grew some plants,
we went hiking, we celebrated memorial day ...
yup - we had a lot going on ...

On one of Nate's rare Saturday's off, we headed down to the Grower's Market!
We had tamales, we people watched, we bought tomatoes and a raspberry plant (YAY),
and we had a beautiful morning together!

We spent some time 'gardening' and cleaning up our back 'yard' -
it's more of a small patio surrounded by rocks -
no grass around our house - which I really miss, but at the same time,
it is nice not to have to worry about keeping it mowed!!

My peas started to sprout ... and then they eventually took over the pot ...
my poor carrots and onions may not survive -
we'll just have to wait and see how strong they are!
(To be fair, I probably shouldn't have planted them all in the same pot,
but hey, I'm new to this whole garden thing, so live and learn, right?)

My cucumbers transplanted well, but my lettuce did not ...
I'm pretty sure the soil was too dry because it just crumbled
when I tried to take it out - oh well - try, try again!!

2013-05-24 17.01.25

Amidst keeping the plants alive (which Nate is now doing because
a snake appeared on our back porch and now I'm scared to go out ...
at least until it cools back down again, anyway ...) we did some other things!

I made some lemon sugar scrub (I followed THESE instructions
provided by the beautiful Brittany at Crafty Mischief)!
I loved it so much that it's already gone and I really need to make some more!

Nate worked, a lot, but he got some awesome photos of some
gorgeous sunsets that we've had! He also took this video of
a typical Grants Pass rainstorm!!

He also had this photo on his phone for some reason,
so I thought I'd give you a glimpse into what he sees every day:

I ended my job at the law office and started my new job at the clubhouse
and I am loving EVERY second of it!! For those of you who haven't heard
the story - how I got this job was a little crazy!  I was putting in applications
all over the place, and I happened to jump on Craigslist one afternoon
(which I had not yet done in my job hunt). I found the listing for my position,
printed up a resume and cover letter, changed my clothes and ran my resume in!
I got a call a few hours later telling me that I had an interview the next morning!
The interview went AWESOMELY and by 12:30 in the afternoon, I had
been offered and had accepted the position. It took less than 24 hours,
which we both feel is CRAZY, but again, I feel like the job was waiting for me to find it!

We celebrated by going to Sizzler for dinner
(yummy salad bars are one of my favorite meals)
and decided to take a few photos of our view of Grants Pass from the restauraunt!
These pictures are taken from a different angle and might give you
better/different perspective on our new home!!

My training is going well, but by the end of the day I am pretty tired!
It has been YEARS (literally) since I have worked 8 hours a day
and 40 hours a week. When I was in school, my schedule was definitely
crazy and busy, and I was usually going much more than 8 hours a day
and 40 hours a week, but I was running back and forth and switching
gears every 3 hours or so - so I've really had to get back into long day/full day mode,
and I'm definitely happy I have a comfy couch at the end of the day!

And it's safe to say that Rascal misses me and is happy when I get home, too ...

2013-05-29 17.23.06

2013-05-20 18.22.32

Now that I'm working days and Nate works most evenings,
we definitely look forward to his days off and relaxing together!!

2013-05-09 13.17.45

It was a busy, exciting May, and it was pretty warm as well!
Our weather has ranged anywhere from 75 - 90 over the last several weeks!
It got hot quickly and we are still getting used to the humidity,
but we are definitely grateful for our air conditioned home, car and offices!

Anyway ... that was our May, but enough about us ...
How are you? What was your favorite thing about May?
