Harris Beach

Awww ... the beach ...
What a wonderful, wonderful place it is!

Last Friday we jumped in the car and drove for two hours
to Harris Beach in Brookings, Oregon!
Our drive took us on the edge of the Redwoods which were absolutely gorgeous
and through many other BEAUTIFUL parts of Oregon!

We took A TON of pictures, so of course, we're eager to share them with you!! :)

1st Stop:  Taylor's Sausage Country Store

I have been told by MANY people at the club that Taylor's Sausage is a must visit
whenever a drive to Cave Junction is needed! We took at advice
to heart and made the stop on our way to Brookings!!
It was just what you'd expect - a store FULL of meat. I had to ignore the smell,
but Nate was pretty happy to wander around a choose a treat for our day at the beach!

We hopped back in the car and made our way through the very windy, narrow canyon
to the coast! Our drive took us through the edge of the Redwoods,
and we were absolutely amazed (pics of that to come later) at the size of the trees -
it was an absolutely beautiful drive!!

Once we hit Highway 101 we had a pretty good view of the Ocean -
we rolled down the windows and had smiles glued to our faces as we
made our way to Harris Beach!! Here was our first glimpse of the beach:

We were SO GIDDY to have finally made it to the beach!!

Our first order of business was to walk along the beach -
we took the camera with us and spent a few hours exploring and photographing -
it was absolutely perfect!!

After our stroll along the beach, we unloaded our very heavy cooler
(we definitely overshopped for this trip - but we were never hungry at the beach ;)
and settled in for an afternoon of enjoying the beach!!

This next picture is our best attempt at capturing the massive waves
that were breaking against this rock! In real time, the waves were
gigantic on both sides, but they were so quick that we used up a lot of
battery and memory card space trying to capture them!! :)

Eventually the sun started to move to the West and it reflected
off of the ocean so beautifully!!

After several WONDERFUL hours of laying on the beach, watching
the waves, chatting, resting our eyes and snacking,
we reluctantly decided that it was time to pack up and make our way home ...
driving AWAY from the ocean is definitely something
that I DO NOT enjoy doing!! :) We stopped at a couple lookout points ...

Another place that we were told to see was the Brookings Harbor!
We pulled over and jumped out for a few minutes to walk along the boardwalk -
it was definitely gorgeous!!

We wanted to head back while it was still light so that we could
get a few pictures of the Redwoods that were along the side of the road ...
I'll warn you right now that these pictures just don't do it justice!
If you want to really see them - you'd better come and visit!!

As you can see - there was much gorgeousness to take in
throughout the whole day! It really was a perfect day at the beach
and we can't wait to get back over to the Coast!!
